High school rumors

High school never ends. But I never had it so bat at CT as I do now. The frigging rumor mill thrives on gossip of any kind and unfortunately (or perhaps I am fortunate I dunno) the tale they tell about me is inaccurate. I am torn between thinking it is the most hilarious thing in the world or the most embarrassing. It all started with something dumb. One of my co-workers (who has 4 pretend boyfriends at work alone) told me I was "totally in love with another co-worker". I thought it was a joke, but she apparently believed it cause she told another co-worker, who said something to me in front of a huge gossip. I said it wasn't true, but they apparently didn't believe me either. Since I couldn't reason with my co-workers, I now laugh along. It is embarrassing when new people all together come up and tell me they know about me and my co-worker co-worker. I tell them it isn't like that, but they just say it is okay if it is and that I would look cute with the guy. He now knows about the rumor... well sorta. He said he laughed cause the version he got was something like we were romantically involved. Which is for the last time entirely untrue. Just cause I don't think he is a complete asshole like half the people I work with doesn't mean I am in love with him. He is like a brother. I haven't yet explained to him that I wasn't the one who started the rumor, or any of the other hilarious embarrassing circumstances which got him called into the office for a chat with the manager. I feel kinda bad and yet I care too much that people talk about me. I don't want him to think bad of me either. I think I still has some 'splainin' to do. Not really looking forward to the convo.

Hellcat

If there is one thing I hate, it is people touching me especially unexpectedly. Another thing I hate is certain types of wind. I can't stand it if my fan is on high even if it is as hot as Hades outside/ inside. This morning I was sitting peacefully in an air conditioned room, when someone decided the air conditioning wasn't cutting it due to the large number of people in a somewhat small space. I am sitting close to a vent (semi annoying but bearable air/ wind currents) when this decision is made. Someone turned on an oscillating floor fan practically right in front of me (This is not an acceptable form of air current). I can deal with open windows because the air is natural and has no particular pattern to it. Strong artificial winds I strongly object to and can't stand in the least. I bloody well hate osculating fans. I have made this clear numerous time with this group of people and no one ever remembers. Everyone else was like "oh yes please give me the fan, I want to feel the air, I am hot" and I was like "OH GOD I'M GONNA DIE! GET ME OUT OF HERE!" I overreacted and became practically spitting mad. My claws were out and everything (dad can attest to that cause I dug them into his arm).
I was able to calm down enough and use my common sense to move the fan so that it wouldn't hit me directly, but I never went back to being a calm docile house cat. When I saw an unused blanket sitting around, I decided to make use of it and further protect my fur from being ruffled by the weird drafty currents generated between the fan and the air vent. I prepared for arctic winter when the rest of the world pretended to sweater. Wusses. Can't take temps about 80? What are you gonna do all friggin summer? It's not even hot yet.

No Touchie

I have one of those co-workers who always touches other people and it annoys me because I don't particularly like people touching me, especially people I am not close with, and especially not without warning.

Today my co-worker came up to me while I was on break, pinched my arm, and said "hi". Ugh. 1) I don't like people just randomly coming up and touching me, and 2) If you pinch my arm, it makes me feel like my arms must be fat or something, 3) Who likes being pinched?? anywhere??. It is just unpleasant all around.

This is why general principle is "no touchie" as in aka "don't touch me". Sigh. Some people just never seem to read my signals though, unfortunately. If someone comes up and wants to give me a hug, there is forewarning of intent and generally some sort of camaraderie/ relationship which makes this action acceptable. I don't usually mind that. Just don't pat me, or pinch me anywhere especially without warning, that's all I ask. One day I will not be able to control my reactions. The last time someone poked me with their finger in the shoulder I had a sharp intake of breath.

Welcome to the "batcave"

My church has recently switched its meeting facility for various reasons and although I think their reasoning is decent, the new space is decidedly smaller then the previous one. This is not ideal for me because I like space. Space to move and breath without running into and touching people. I need my space bubble. I hate to say it but the ceilings are lower and the square footage less so that I feel almost claustrophobic. Someone whistled last week and I honestly though it sounded like a whistle someone blows to get people's attention and the though that ran through my head was that the fire marshal had somehow come and was gonna tell us there were too many people in one small space. This however was not the case. I am gonna try to stick it out, but if I can't feel comfortable in the new space, I am going to look into finding a new church home.

Working towords something...

I dunno what goes on in people's heads or what they have seen/ heard about me, but I was enthusiastically greeted upon going to work today then not half an hour later asked to essentially cover any calls for the manager while they ate. Woah. I felt totally honored but undeserving. So okay I would like to believe I am fairly intelligent and have a good work ethic, and I have been working there a while, and I guess they were sorta desperate I suppose but I am not exactly high on the totem pole so to speak even for all that. Luckilly there were very few calls and they were simple at that. I just can't guess what made them think I was qualified, exciting as it was.

One of my co-workers wants to set me up with a friend of theirs. They told me so tonight (which I already had an inkling of because of something another friend said). I dunno... it sounds like it could be interesting but... yet the thought makes me nervous all the same. She said her friend is a little shorter then I am which for me is not truly ideal (cause I like to wear heels) but it is not a make or break the deal kind of thing either as long as the guy isn't really short. Sounds like I might have a few things in common with him, but it is hard to say cause I have not as yet met the guy.

Managers...

There is a new manger where I work. In fact we have two new managers and two "veteran" managers. I want to talk about the newest one. I saw her in the store briefly one day last week as I was leaving for the day and I wasn't sure who she was because I saw a few people I didn't really know that day and I didn't get introduced. So this evening she was scheduled as the closing manager and I was closing tonight. I was expecting (perhaps unrealistically) that I would be officially introduced to the newest manager. No. This was not the case. She did talk to me, but it was not to introduce herself, it was to ask a favor of me.

She asks a favor of me without ever introducing herself or being introduced to me.

I don't care if you know my name and I know what yours is supposed to be, please say "Hi my name is____, what's your name?" or some cheesy greeting, so we can be on friendly terms and maybe get to know each other a little bit... build some respect. In my memory nothing like this has happened to me before where a manager hasn't made some effort to get to know people's names by simple introduction, especially upon seeing people they will be working with for the foreseeable future and haven't met yet.

I realize many people might not think this a big deal, but to me it is because I want to be introduced before I start getting orders. Even though I haven't firmly made up my mind as to like/ dislike yet... I now understand why some people already don't like her even though she only started last week.

Technology

I thought I was behind the times cause it took me longer than most people my age to get a cell phone. Today I helped an older lady use the vending machine. No joke. She couldn't read the instructions. Using a vending machine is like second nature to me and there are so many around I was somewhat surprised, but I was glad I could be of assistance all the same.

Rice CRISPY Treats

I don't know what happened... I messed up one of the most simple recipes in the world. My Rice crispy treats turned out like a rice crispy rock. Of course I will place all the blame on the marshmallows; they were getting old but I insisted they will still be good for rice crispy treats. Oh well... it still tastes good and if you stick them in the microwave for a few seconds, they become gooey and mostly normal like again...
